It’s been hours since Facebook officially announced that its name will now be "Meta". Let’s find out why META or METAVERSE is so important.
HEY! WAIT… WHAT?….
WHAT IS THE METAVERSE????? 🚀
In recent months you may have heard about something called the metaverse. Maybe you’ve read that the metaverse is going to replace the internet. Maybe we’re all supposed to live there. Maybe Facebook (or Epic, or Roblox, or dozens of smaller companies) is trying to take it over. And maybe it’s got something to do with NFTs?
The Metaverse is a network that is a combination between social media, gaming, augmented reality(AR), virtual reality(VR) and cryptocurrencies.
It lets users interact with each other in an online world.
You can think of the Metaverse as the world’s digital twin. 🌌
It is more or less an extension of the real world: human profiles are signified as avatars. Office spaces, property, concerts are all replicated in the Metaverse.
“YOU CAN TELEPORT INSTANTANEOUSLY”
The Metaverse is a shared virtual network that people can access through the internet. It provides a “virtual world” experience in which human expressions and gesticulations are replicated.
Facebook, arguably the tech company with the biggest stake in the metaverse, describes it more simply:
“The ‘metaverse’ is a set of virtual spaces where you can create and explore with other people who aren’t in the same physical space as you.”
History Of The Metaverse
The word “Metaverse” was made up by a person named Neal Stephenson. It is for people who are avatars of humans who are in the three-dimensional virtual space that uses the metaphor of this world.

No, we are not leaving. We are creating a new space to live in. We do this with 10101011 (with codes) too!
SO IS FORTNITE A METAVERSE? OR FACEBOOK HORIZON?
OR IS THE METAVERSE ALL OF THEM PUT TOGETHER?
Some people say that they are building a place for people to play games. But other people might not want to play games. They might just want a place where they can go and do anything they want. There is not one company that sells this product, but many different ones work together to make it happen. For example, you could have Facebook without being able to buy products from Amazon or visit your friends on Facebook as often as you would like because the two companies don’t work well together.
“The metaverse isn’t a single product one company can build alone. Just like the internet, the metaverse exists whether Facebook is there or not,” one recent Facebook statement reads.
WHY IS THE TERM “METAVERSE” EVEN USEFUL?“THE INTERNET” ALREADY COVERS MOBILE APPS, WEBSITES, AND ALL KINDS OF INFRASTRUCTURE SERVICES.
A more cynical spin is that ‘metaverse’ lets companies dodge negative baggage like needing to be regulated. The Washington Post article says, “As long as you can make technology seem fresh and new and cool, you can avoid regulation.” This sounds kind of like the internet. It’s also called the

There’s also one very simple reason: it sounds more futuristic than “internet” and gets investors and media people (like me) excited.

In a nutshell, they help to record who owns a specific virtual good. They make it possible for people to transfer these virtual goods from one place to another and also buy them. This is important because it is often hard for people to buy these things in different places, so NFTs make this easier by letting the person use the same shirt in many places called Metaverse Platforms A-Z.
Lots of NFT designers are selling collectible avatars like CryptoPunks, Cool Cats, and Bored Apes. These are mostly 2D art that people use as their profile pictures on social media. But some of these avatars will soon be used in VR worlds where people can visit them.
IS USING ONE AVATAR OR ITEM ACROSS DIFFERENT WORLDS AS SIMPLE AS IT SOUNDS?
On the contrary, people like Raph Koster think it’s one of the metaverse’s toughest problems.
Designers support people “moving” items between worlds. One way they do this is to make all the worlds in a single platform like Roblox, where you can change your clothes and use them across different experiences. But not every world is the same. That means that someone might look good in a 3D hat when they are looking at it from one perspective, but then when they turn to see it from another angle it doesn’t look good anymore.
IS THE METAVERSE A KIND OF INTERNET? WILL IT REPLACE THE INTERNET?
People are talking about it like that. Mark Zuckerberg said in an interview,
“The metaverse is an embodied internet.”
That means it is like the internet, but it’s more powerful and people can do different stuff.
The metaverse is supposed to be a place where you can see people in person instead of just looking at them on a screen. For example, when you are in the virtual world with your co-workers, it might feel more natural than looking at pictures of people online.
Text can be useful. If you do not have a lot of money, it is easier to use the internet. People who cannot see well or move easily might find that text on the internet is easier to use than navigating 3D environments on a computer. You can solve this problem with people who know about these issues and help them get this fixed.
The Metaverse: Future Possibilities
The Metaverse is a place where you can do many things, like study, work, interact with people, go to concerts and play games. It is an extension of the physical world and it is also a combination of the physical world.
In the future, business meetings, entertainment and even work training may be provided on the internet. That is why a lot of organizations are investing in this. The potential for this network to change our world is huge.
The Metaverse can be a safe or unsafe place. Developers have to make sure that the network is secure so there are no data breaches, malicious malware, and fraud.
If you ask me, I would say the Metaverse is the next big thing after the internet. Would I use it? As an online learner, concert attender or digital meeting member, yes I would.
