We meet a lot in events, articles or content on the metaverse. You know that I am very passionate about producing content on this subject. I didn’t want to decide on my next post alone, so I posted a few polls on my social media. As a result of the survey I asked what my new article should be, you decided on the subject of Artificial Intelligence in Metaverse and I am before you with that article :)

We talked about Metaverse Detailed Analysis and Ethics in Metaverse. (The follow-up article on ethics will be with you very soon!)

First of all, in a short summary;

1. What is Metaverse?

A massively scaled, persistent, interactive, and interoperable real-time platform of interconnected virtual worlds where people can socialise, work, transact, play, and create content.

You can think of the Metaverse as the world’s digital twin.🌌

2. What is Artificial Intelligence?

Artificial intelligence is the ability of a computer or computer-controlled robot to perform tasks often associated with intelligent beings.

I want this article to be a summary of 3 questions;

In which areas can contributions be made using artificial intelligence?
Which AI models can be used?
Is it safe to use artificial intelligence in Metaverse? :)

In order to understand the usage areas of artificial intelligence in the metaverse, it is important that we understand the layers of the metaverse. Everything you need to know for Metaverse Technology! — In my article titled "Detailed Analysis," I examined the layers in 4 branches.

These;

  • Enabling part
  • Hardware Infrastructure components
  • Platforms and Tools
  • Content components and Experience

was.

Then I stumbled upon Jon Radoff’s article, which I adored, and examined its layers.

AI potential applications in Metaverse based on “Building the Metaverse” by Jon Radoff under CC BY license

Actually, Jon explained the layers I mentioned above with seven layers, as in the image above.

-Infrastructure
-User interface
-decentralization
-Spatial calculation

“Spatial Computing is human interaction with a machine in which the machine holds and manipulates references to real objects and fields”

-Creative Economy
-Discovery
-Experience

He conveyed the potential applications of Artificial Intelligence in these layers as follows in his article.

Now, making detailed potential analyses based on this image will enable us to understand the subject.

AIOps

AIOps is a combination of big data and machine learning that helps manage issues such as hardware, software, and communications.

  • Intelligently distinguishes important events and issues related to system performance and usability.
  • It can diagnose root causes, respond quickly and fix them automatically.

Inclusive User Interfaces

One of the things that can make Metaverse successful in the future is clearly its immersiveness and good user experience.
But unfortunately, this structure is not valid for everyone, our problems in the world are also problems in the metaverse, which is the digital twin of the world.

These;
- Inability of people with disabilities to fully access the Metaverse at desired performance

- People who are not good at using technology can find themselves outside of this new social economy.

So AI for accessibility (making sure everyone can use it) should be a core part of the metaverse.

  • Image recognition for visually impaired people
  • Automatic translation
  • Smart exoskeletons for interacting with the digital world (for Persons with Disabilities)
  • Brain-computer interface with augmented reality for individuals who need the most help (Cognixion Footnote: Definitely visit the site!)

Advanced Smart Contracts

image

Metaverse, which we convey to follow the ideas of democratisation and decentralisation, promises to enable creators and users to easily exchange digital assets and entitlements, protect property, and reduce the mediation costs of big tech companies. (You can check out my article for a better understanding of NFT.)

However, since it offers a decentralized service, what prevents a person from making 330 purchases despite the smart contract of NFTs, which should be in our lives, allowing a maximum of only 2 NFTs to be purchased for an individual;

The Problem Tweet;

İlk Adidas NFT bir saniyeden kısa sürede tükendi. Web3 demokratikleşmesinin geleceği bu mu?

The first Adidas NFT sold out in less than a second. Is this the future of Web3 democratisation? Advanced smart contracts with AI can help solve such scenarios. As we talked about earlier in the AIOps section, infrastructure information about transactions can be used to track such “undemocratic” activities.

I will revisit this issue of security.

ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE (AI) for Immersive Digital Worlds & as a Creative Partner

We need to talk about how AI will play a key role in creating digital spaces for social interactions in the metaverse. It even includes setting up virtual environments and using artificial intelligence audio/video technologies to test the autonomous robots/artificial intelligence we use to create digital worlds and simulate real worlds.

  1. Enabling virtual models: AI can simulate the real world and deliver realistic experiences to enhance and model digital worlds.
  2. Creating more realistic and interactive avatars: AI can be used to create realistic facial expressions and movements, as well as give avatars the ability to understand and respond to spoken and written language. This can improve the user experience by making interacting with avatars more natural and engaging.
  3. Providing personalized recommendations: AI can be used to analyze a user’s preferences and history in the metaverse to provide personalized recommendations for virtual experiences and content.
  4. Enabling virtual assistants: Artificial intelligence can be used to create virtual assistants that can assist users with tasks such as planning and organization or answering questions.
  5. Providing virtual education and training: AI can be used to create virtual teachers that can provide personalized education and training to users.
  6. Providing virtual customer service: AI can be used to create virtual customer service representatives who can assist users with their questions and support needs.

We can provide many details in this area.

Smart Network

image

Metaverse will try to make social networks more personal, ensuring that every person’s experience in the digital world is different.
However, this can create some unfavourable situations, especially for minors and children. AI can also help us make social networks in the metaverse better for everyone.

  • Preventing abuse and hate speech
  • Calculation of content relevance for minor groups (eg language, geography, etc.)
  • Feature selection to avoid bias

Intelligent Hyper Personalized Games, Experiences, Education and Outreach

This concept, based on each layer and the purpose of leveraging the capabilities offered by artificial intelligence, is to create unique digital experiences for every user of the Metaverse.

  • Intelligent difficulty modes adjustments for the game, depending on the player’s dexterity.
  • Personalization of virtual sensory experiences based on specific user’s disabilities.
  • Suggestions of learning paths, and additional training are suggested based on student progress.
  • Personalized fitness plans based on real-time analytics of health parameters, used via IoT personal devices.

What AI models can be used in Metaverse?

Some Examples;

  1. Natural Language Processing: NLP models can be used to enable avatars and other virtual entities to understand and respond to spoken and written language. It will allow to creation of more realistic and interactive virtual characters.
  2. Machine Learning: ML models can be used to analyze user data and provide personalized recommendations or improve the overall user experience in the metaverse repository.
  3. Computer Vision: Computer vision models can be used to enable avatars and other virtual entities to see and interpret their virtual environment, which can be used to create more realistic and interactive virtual worlds.
  4. Deep Learning: Deep learning models can be used to create realistic facial expressions and movements for avatars, as well as to enable avatars to understand and respond to spoken and written language.

In general, there are many different AI models that can be used in the metastore to provide more realistic and interactive virtual environments and content and improve the user experience.

Alright…

Could artificial intelligence be dangerous for humans in the metaverse?

Artificial intelligence has the potential to pose risks to humans in the metaverse just as it does in the physical world. (We talk to you about this at almost every conference.)

For example, AI-powered avatars or virtual assistants can be used to deceive or manipulate users or have negative consequences for individuals if used to enable harmful behaviour such as cyberbullying.

There is also the potential for AI to be used for malicious purposes, such as to spread misinformation or propaganda or to carry out cyber attacks.

To mitigate these risks, it will be essential for developers and regulators to consider the potential consequences of AI applications and take appropriate action.

How can AI be used to improve security in potentially damaging situations in the metaverse?

Let’s take a look at some examples;

  1. Detecting and preventing malicious activity: AI can be used to analyze behaviour patterns and detect anomalies that may indicate malicious activity. Artificial intelligence can be used to detect attempts to access unauthorized domains, and detect and block spam or phishing attacks.
  2. Analyze user data to identify security threats: AI can be used to analyze users’ data, such as their browsing history or social media activity, to identify potential security threats. This could include things like identifying attempts to access sensitive information or detecting behavioural patterns that could indicate cyberbullying or other harmful activities. (How ethical it is to give access to personal data is debatable.)
  3. Providing security alerts and notifications: AI can be used to monitor activity in real-time and provide alerts or notifications when potential security threats are detected.
  4. Improve password security: AI can be used to analyze user password data and identify patterns that could indicate weak passwords or possible password cracking attempts.
  5. Enhance network security: AI can be used to analyze network activity and identify patterns that may indicate potential security threats, such as attempts to gain unauthorized access or spread malware.

We can give many details in this area.

In general, AI has the potential to increase security in a number of different environments, particularly in the metaverse, by detecting and preventing malicious activity, identifying potential security threats, and posing risks.

SUMMARY;

These are just some ideas on how AI can contribute to creating diverse and inclusive experiences in the Metaverse, with what models it can be applied to, or how it can create and protect from threats.
